Back when I was volunteering as an assistant lay pastor in Hammond, Indiana, I did a series called "Quench Tonight".
Some drink aren't satisfying. They actually make us thirstier.
Many times we look to thinks of this life to satisfy us, but it leaves completely unsatisfied.
This video is opening montage for each night in the series that would play before I went up to speak.
The story that I tell was the one I told during the opening night of that series.

Actors:
Deidre, Harry, David, Alyson, Jonathan, Wayne, Glass Cup

Video Music: Soundtrack from Building 429, "Listen to the Sound"
Vlog Music: Upbeat Hip Hop - AShamaluevMusic..

Discussion Question:
What are some things that many people think will satisfy them?

I think Canada Dry is the best thing you can drink to satisfy that thirst. And hockey isn't Canada true main sport anymore, but watching the presidential election of the United States is.

After watching today's throwback Thursday series, I truly see how we can take the materialistic element in our lives and make it satisfying to us. From a job to a relationship, when you try to pleasure your wants, it becomes a form of idolatry. The first commandment in the ten commandments is, "Don't have any gods before me." Anything you put before God becomes a god. So a career could be a god. A boyfriend could be a god. Hockey could be a god. Anything that becomes number one in your life that isn't God becomes a god.

Jesus said it like this in John 5:30: "I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgement is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me." Jesus basically saying that He is living for an audience of One.

The second commandment is "Don't make any idols." Anything that takes God's place becomes an idol. People have taken success as an idol. Money, home, relationship, and even friends. When people please the world, they allowed something other than their Creator to take first place. Out of no where, what seemed to be a survival kit to stay alive until the second coming, has become a god in their life. This may be because we allowed the opinions of others clutter our focus on God. "What people might think of me more of what God thinks of me" becomes essential to me. (me - God = Pleasure)

The fear I had when my family discovered I was attending an Adventist church is an example of replacing God's with my family. I did not want them to know where I attended church at first because they might not have like me they way I knew they always have. I have changed my diet in the past and now I'm changing the one thing that made me normal to them. At that point, I have made a god in my life. I have made my family as an idol.

I now only please the God who created me and who have a purpose in my life. In Galatians 1:10, Paul states, "For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleases men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ." People must understand the difference between want and need. "I, Michella, want to be successful in life, but I need God." (God + God's will for me = Perfect living)

Haha I really like ginger-ale. It is refreshing Warm Ginger Ale is horrible though. You would think that it would be like Ginger tea or something. Nope.

Haha do they really watch American politics over there?

Hmm explain a little more what you mean by (me - God = pleasure). Not sure what you meant.

Wow, thats big when you are able to identify the idols in our lives. That way we can tear them down.

Yeah its okay to have wants and desires, but we have to recognize that they are just wants.

I really liked the verses you brought up and thoughts.
