Why do we crave attention and validation from our parents?

I think we crave attention and validation from our parents because they are usually the first people who we meet and come to know and love. Our parents teach us right from wrong, so we look to them as our judge and seek their approval.

How can God fulfill what the void that parents sometimes leave?
God is our one and only true judge. God can fulfill the void that our parents leave if we are willing to find a friend in Him.

Yeah I agree.
There is nothing wrong with wanting that attention and validation. It's natural.

Friendship with God is one of the greatest gifts He has given to us.

There’s this belief where I come from when we believe there’s a good twin and an evil twin. I’m the oldest by 1 minute, but the youngest out of my two older sisters. When you’re stuck being neither the youngest nor the oldest sister, it can be easy to turn into the evil twin for attention. I sought attention when I was 6 years old, but that did not do me any favor. I got exhausted being the twin who had to be cruel to her own twin sister. I believe I had less attention from my mother when I was unkind. I later started acting like the good twin the following year and ever since then, I was referred as the good twin. I sought approval to prove to my mother that who she made wasn’t a waste of time. Pleasing my mother was one way to know she was proud of what she had made.

I started seeking for approval from God when I knew He loved me for who I was and not what I have done. In 1 Corinthians 13:8, it says that Love never fails. If I read this passage in the past, I would have simply be upset by the text. I mean, people have failed me in love. But the scriptures does not say people never fails, but that Love never fails. So, Love is always the right choice. If people are being disrespectful to you, love is always the right response. I realize that if parents are strained or struggled to do this to their child(ren), love is always the right choice to respond back as a child. People may change, places may change, your life may change, but the only consistent thing that never change is that love remains. The one thing that will remain into eternity is God’s love He has for us. Since He never failed us, we too can show love to others even though they aren’t willing to receive it.

Thats interesting that whole evil twin thing. I'm curious. Were you there when I preached a sermon called "Sibling Rivalry"

Yeah, we can't help what people do to us, but we can show that love to them

I remembered the sermon very well. In fact, that was my first time knowing a close friend of yours name their son after you. It was one of my favorite sermons. Sibling rivalry was my childhood experience. I don’t recall my sister taking my birthright by serving me food though, but it gradually became a thing in my family that I looked younger than her so I must have been the younger twin. You see, my mother had a c-section with us and when this happened, the conspiracy of having my doctor letting the twin who was supposed to be out first left to be cook a little bit longer in the womb pondered in everyone’s head. I may have not remembered clearly what happen that day, but I may have been smiling when hearing my sister cried after I came out. Facts are facts- I’m twin A.
