Read Along:
Mark 1:
21 Then they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught. 22 And they were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

23 Now there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried out, 24 saying, “Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!”

25 But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!” 26 And when the unclean spirit had convulsed him and cried out with a loud voice, he came out of him. 27 Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.” 28 And immediately His fame spread throughout all the region around Galilee.

29 Now as soon as they had come out of the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John. 30 But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick with a fever, and they told Him about her at once. 31 So He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them.

32 At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to Him all who were sick and those who were demon-possessed. 33 And the whole city was gathered together at the door. 34 Then He healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew Him.

Prayerfully journal your thoughts on these questions:
Why did Jesus' teachings leave such an impression on the listeners?

Why do you think Jesus stopped the demons from speaking?

Why does Jesus spend so much time healing others?

Apply the message:
How can I apply the message that I've learned from this reading to my life?

What practical thing can I do in the next 24 hours, in order to apply the message that I've learned?

Share your thoughts in the comment section and make sure to pray with someone today

These were hungry sick peopwe need it to be healed and when they found what they wanted and See what is able to make them all the gravitate tweet and follow after it They found something that even the demons normal and is able to defined off and this is why Jesus did not allow the demons to speak when he cast them out Jesus spent a lot of time healing and teaching because this was apart of the work that he came to do

What a wonderful work Jesus was doing and He is still working today. We just have to let Him work in our lives.

Jesus is our example as He healed, comforted, and overall showed love and compassion to all who are in need. I believe that Jesus was intentional in ministering to the sick during the sabbath and the Pharisees were enraged about this. Today, non-observant of the sabbath think that when we keep the sabbath, that we don't do anything just stay home and rest. I explained to them that Jesus healed, He ministered to the people and we also do, just like Jesus.

Yes, there is the work of the Lord that is good to do on the Sabbath. It's important to focus on the principles rather than focusing on the dos and don'ts.

And I agree. I think Jesus purposely went out of his way throughout his ministry to heal on the Sabbath specifically in order to challenge peoples' way of thinking.

How can I apply the message that I've learned from this reading to my life?

The section of the message that discusses how the people waited for the Sabbath to be over before going to God was interesting. I will begin paying closer attention to times that I wait or delay instead of directly and immediately relying on God.

It's ironic isn't it.

Yes, going to God right away is so important to do, although sometimes, unfortunately, it's easy to forget, but we just have to keep catching ourselves and intentionally go to God.

Wonderful study and important points from today’s study… my take-away like the sister says— Don’t wait, hesitate, or delay to pour your heart out to the Lord. We need healing in so many ways, and not purely physical all the time, but spiritual and emotional as well. There are times when Jesus healed physically and he would start by saying “ Your sins are forgiven”. The Lord is always beckoning us to “Come…” to him in scripture. He says “ Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. “ Always beckoning to seek him and come to Him ( Isaiah 55 1-13, John 7:37, Matthew 11:28 etc). For this, we praise and adore Him, and encourage our family, friends and those whom we encounter to “come” and meet this merciful, awesome, miracle working, powerful and loving God.

I really like your references. So true that Jesus would say things like "your sins are forgiven" while healing. He was concerned with more than just the physical healing. Thank you for the additional verses. I particularly found Isaiah 55:6 to be powerful: "Seek the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near." In other words go to God while you still can.
