These discussion questions are based on the sermon titled "Don’t Fear".
Here are some discussion questions that you can talk about with the people that are in your home with you. You can also call a friend who was watching and discuss it with them. Or you can break out a notebook and use these questions to journal your thoughts on the message. Those who are at the church will discuss this after the message.

1. How does fear get in the way of what God has planned for us?

2. Why are we more concerned about what people think about us then what God thinks about us?

3. Why should we not look down on ourselves?

4. How are we able to face the giants in our lives?

5. What are some dreams that you have in life?

6. How can fearful situations prepare us to be used by God?

7. Why should we trust in God instead of fearing the situation?

Bonus Question: How can both young and grown generations work together?

8. What message did you personally take away from this sermon?

9. How can you apply this sermon to your life?

10. What practical thing can you do today to get started?

1) How does fear get in the way of what God has planned for us?
Fear get in the way of what God has planned for us due to a lack of trust. In Isaiah 43:1 we read, "Don't fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine." God is telling us not to fear because he knows that the enemy uses fear to minimize our hope and it can also limit our victories. To fear is ultimately to not trust God and for that reason, Satan always seek to draw people into fear. On the other hand fear sometimes protect us, in that it makes us more alert to dangers and sometimes it serves as a warning signal for us to be careful. Fear is natural to man even though, it was never God's will for us to be fearful

The enemy work hard to bring fear in believers' lives which severely handicap them from doing will. Many people will miss God's best because of fear. They say, "I can't do this! or This is impossible! Fear can also immobilize our spiritual life in the sense that many Christian are no longer progressing spiritually because they are afraid of what people will say or think. It is important for us to confront our fear as that is the only way to conquer it.

Fear can lead to sin like what happened to Abraham when he lied about his wife. Fear gets in the way of what God plan for us because of disobedience. If we become fearful of doing what God has planned for us we could find ourselves in problems. When God came to Abram in a vision the first thing he said to him was Do not be afraid because I am your shield. Christ also said the same thing to the women at his resurrection Matt. 28:10. It is not Gods will for us to be fearful. Fear did not become a problem until sin came into the world.

One reason that we struggle with fear is because we don't know the love of God as we should. We fear the future, the past, the present and people, all because we really don't know how much God loves us. Like Peter walking on water, but then he started to look at the wind and waves, became afraid and started to sink. We do the same. All we see are the problems, difficulties, instead of Christ, and therefore, we begin to sink because fear comes from the wrong focus.

1st John 4:18 says, "Perfect love drives out fear." In other words for those who know God, and are born again, we have experienced a love that when perfected in us, can wipe away all fears. Finally, when we are battling fear we must run to God in prayer because he already knows our fears. He will show us the path to take. We put him first by serving the church, be in consistent devotion and prayer and being a light in the world among other things. When we do this God will guide and deliver us from fear.

Yeah fear should never existed, but because of sin, we have it to protect us from the dangers of this sin cursed earth.
However, fear should not control us.
It is interesting that we ought to fear God, but yet we have instances like the ones you mentioned where there is no need to fear. The way how I see it is, if we fear God, we need not fear anything or anyone else. And if we are on His side and we love Him, then perfect love will cast out that fear like you said. We don't need to be scared of God, but if we are not on His side, then we should be afraid.

1. How does fear get in the way of what God has planned for us?

Fear gets in the way of what God has planned for us because we do not trust God to lead us. We always want to take matters into our own hands. We are reminded in Philippians 4:6-7 to, "6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." Day, after day, and throughout the day, I have repeated these verses to myself as a silent prayer. The questions that I always ask myself is, "Why do I repeat this over and over? Why can't I just pray once and be satisfied and convinced that God will take care of me from beginning to end?" I have concluded that in as much as I pray, my heart is still fill with doubt. I do not doubt God, I doubt myself, and in doubting myself, I am actually doubting and questioning God. I look forward to the day when I will truly submit to the Lord by allowing Him to fully take over my life. The point that I am making is prayer is strengthening and constant prayer about the same thing could be a sign of doubt. A fearless follower of Christ knows that our prayers are already answered when we die to self and let the Lord lead.

Haha I preached on that passage today.
Pray, pray, and pray some more. It will strengthen our faith. Just know we only need a little bit of faith for a mountain to be moved, because it is Jesus who moves the mountain when we trust Him.
