These discussion questions are based on the sermon titled "Reignite the Fire".
Here are some discussion questions that you can talk about with the people that are in your home with you. You can also call a friend who was watching and discuss it with them. Or you can break out a notebook and use these questions to journal your thoughts on the message. Those who are at the church will discuss this after the message.

1. What are some other God’s that we put up in our lives?

2. Why did Elijah feel alone?

3. Why does Elijah make fun of Baal’s prophets?

4. Why did Elijah put so much water on the altar?

5. How is the Holy Spirit like  a fire?

6. How does fire baptism show God’s salvation process?

7. What message did you personally take away from this sermon?

8. How can you apply this sermon to your life?

9. What practical thing can you do today to get started?

1) What are some other God's that we put up in our lives?

We are commanded not to have other Gods except the true and living God. Today there are many false Gods fighting for the attention of God's children. Some of the other Gods that we put up in our lives are as follows just to name a few:
Telephone: If your electronic devices are getting more time and attention than your loved ones, something is very wrong.
Money: There is much value in money, but it is not the most valuable thing. While money is not exactly modern-day temptation the lesson is the same. In Matt. 6:24 Jesus teaches that no one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. Simple stated you can't serve God and money.
Materialism: This is a prevalent problem especially with younger people, with all the peer pressure. However, that is not to say that older people are free from it, as todays consumerism-not to mention the billion-dollar advertising industry that drives us to believe that we need certain objects, possessions or substances to make us feel happy and contented. With today's global market and online shopping, there's no limit to the things we can buy. We need the fruit of the Spirit especially self-control now more than ever.
Self Image: The Christian faith is about joy found in God, more than in ourselves or things of the world. With Facebook and Instagram, we can become obsessed with projecting the image of a perfect life, perfect relationship, perfect children, and perfect group - with one click, your life can look like everybody else, a dream come through. We need to make sure that we are projecting pictures of all the great things in your life including anything that would speak to the world about your faith in God.
Work and Success: These are two of the biggest culprits that replace God and can become our idols if we are not careful. Nothing is wrong with work, but we cannot allow it to drive our decision-making to the point where we ignore God's way and desires. Likewise, God desires for us to be successful, but he does not want it to take his place in our hearts. When success is taken out of God's will, we will find no satisfaction, when we choose to surrender to God and his ways, we will be prosperous and successful according to the promises in Joshua 1:8. Idolatry looks different today from what it used to be. There was a time when idols were inanimate figures and statues but they come in various forms now a days.

5) How is the Holy Spirit like a fire?
The Bible speaks of God as "a consuming fire" (Heb.12:29), so I would say that fire appears as a symbol of God's presence. For example Ex.3:2 that refers to the burning bushes. In Mal.3:2 we read that God is like a refiners fire which tells me that he will refine us and make us vessels for his honor. However, the process will not be easy, it's a time of suffering but as we go through the fire, our faith will be purified even me according to (1Peter 1:6,7) When we walk daily in fellowship of the Holy Spirit his fire will continue to purify us until we become like Jesus as stated in (2Cor. 3:17,18) Another example of the Holy Spirit like a fire is found in Act 2:3-4, And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. Notice the cloven tongues resembled fire, but they weren't claimed to be a true material fire. In my opinion, fire is needed for purifying the soul so that the Holy Spirit can reside in a person. This fire is Spiritual fire and not material fire that will harm us. The Holy Spirit is associated with fire and John the Baptist said it best when he told the people that he baptized with water but Jesus would come after him and he is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire (Matt. 3:11). What impressed me is the fact that it was the Holy Spirit that chose to appear as "tongues of fire" resting on each of the believers, at that moment, they all were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

Self-Image. Wow thats serious one. You are so right. Our self image can be god. Our focus in life.

Isn't it interesting that the Holy Spirit appeared as tongues of fire? I was originally going to reference that, but I talked about many times before, but the Holy Spirit appeared there in a powerful way. Those tongues like fire got their tongues to speak with power as fire.

Interesting how fire, wind, water all can represent the Holy Spirit. Those essential elements. The Holy Spirit is as essential as these elements

1. What are some other God’s that we put up in our lives?
We sometimes worship materialistic things like, money, jewelry, clothing, our employers and ourselves. When we are in a bind and all these "things" wither away, then we return to God. This statement is sad and often true. Last week, I was talking with one of my friends, we were discussing that many wealthy or well off people say that they do not believe in God while many people with financial challenges, who struggle more in life are believers. Many people need a reason to worship God.

That is true. That financial security gives a false sense of security.
