These discussion questions are based on the sermon titled "Backwards".
Here are some discussion questions that you can talk about with the people that are in your home with you. You can also call a friend who was watching and discuss it with them. Or you can break out a notebook and use these questions to journal your thoughts on the message. Those who are at the church will discuss this after the message.

1. Why do we tend to dwell on the past?

2. How is dwelling in the past dangerous?

3. Why does Solomon say not to ask "Why is the old days better than today?"

4. What are some reasons that people turn back to old ways?

5. Why is returning to the former life disgusting like drinking vomit?

6. How can we keep our focus on God when the past is so distracting?

7. What message did you personally take away from this sermon?

8. How can you apply this sermon to your life?

9. What practical thing can you do today to get started?

1. We tend to dwell on the past because we believe that our best self who we know is the best we can be. While God always have a better plan for us.

2. Dwelling in the past causes one to not move forward, all the great things that are ahead are placed on hold.

That really is the danger. Putting God's plans for us on hold because we are trapped in the past.

1). Why do we tend to dwell on the past?
We as humans tend to dwell on the past because of unmet goals or feelings of past failures. Some people can't let go of the past because they don't appreciate the present. However difficult it may be we need to leave the past behind and learn from it and move on. Letting go doesn't mean that you are giving up.

2)How is dwelling in the past dangerous?
When we dwell on the past what we are doing is going over the same chapter of our lives again and again and expecting a change in the outcome. Dwelling on the past is one of the biggest roadblock from moving forward. We cannot possibly continue to move forward in our own lives if we are constantly holding on to the past. If the past was a painful one, confront it, get it off your chest and focus on the present. If you were wronged by other individuals, forgive them, forgive yourself, and start making new memories. Don't replay past events or think about what you could have done differently because you could be obsessively dwelling on the past which could cause more harm than good.

8)How can you apply this sermon to your life?
I can and will apply this sermon to my life by eradicating any and every past experience, specifically, painful ones. I will focus all my attention on moving forward allowing God's plan to work in my life with the help of the Holy Spirit.
